We’re best known for providing effective, consistent solutions that enhance the lives of growers around the world. How do nematodes affect my crop?
We hear this question a lot, Brady. Nematodes feed on the roots of crops, creating open wounds that hurt plants on their own, but also leave roots vulnerable to infections or diseases in the soil. The symptoms of nematode damage or infection are similar to other agricultural challenges, with crops experiencing growth reduction, increased wilting, mineral deficiency, decreased winter hardiness and more. Because of this, nematode damage is often misdiagnosed or is too subtle to notice from above the ground. If you think you may have a nematode infestation on your operation, it’s important to collect a sample of the soil or plant material and send it to a lab for analysis. They can confirm that nematodes are causing the damage and tell you what type of species you’re dealing with. Then, apply a pesticide with nematode suppression for your specific species to mitigate any injury and ensure your crops next season are not damaged.

What new technology do we have coming to help with waterhemp control?
We get it, Trent, waterhemp is a huge problem on acres across America. The newest herbicide we offer to control waterhemp is ZALO™ Herbicide, which can be used on glufosinate-tolerant soybean, cotton and canola for next-level postemergence control of broadleaf weeds, grasses and some volunteer corn. ZALO also offers control of challenging weeds (including waterhemp) on stone and pome fruit acres. Other herbicide options for controlling waterhemp in soybeans include FirstRate® and Scepter® 70 DG. And for corn growers, the Impact family (Impact®, ImpactZ®, ImpactCORE®) and SINATE® offer outstanding postemergence control of waterhemp and other broadleaf weeds.

How do I get my SmartBox calibrated?
Kevin, this is a great question to ask to get your season off to a good start! SmartBox® and SmartBox+® systems should be calibrated before every season for the best results. You can calibrate the system on your own by putting the controller into calibration mode, collecting a timed sample volume from each row, recording the amount collected and hitting enter on the controller. For hands-on support from a technician, or you can schedule an on-farm calibration before May 8 by calling 1-888-SMARTBOX (1-888-762-7826), and they’ll ensure you’re set up to start this season strong.
